Prof. Marcos Tatagiba was born in Victoria, Brazil and is currently the Chairman and Director of the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Tübingen, Germany. Medical study at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1980-1986). From 1987-1993 Neurosurgical Training at the Department of Neurosurgery, Klinikum Hannover Nordstadt, Germany, under the Chairmanship of Professor Madjid Samii. Board of Neurosurgery in March 1993 with German and European Certificate. Doctoral thesis (Dr.med.) in 1992 and post-doctoral thesis (Habilitation) in 1998 at the Hannover Medical School. 1995-1996 Research fellow at the Institute of Brain Research, University of Zurich (Prof. Martin E. Schwab) as recipient of the Neuroscience Fellowship Program of the European Science Foundation. 1998-2002 Associate Professor, Hannover Medical School and International Neuroscience Institute (INI) Hannover. 2002-2003, Vice-Chairman Department of Neurosurgery, University of Freiburg i.Br. Since 2003 Chairman and Director, Dept. of Neurosurgery, University of Tübingen. 2006, appointed as Chairman and Director, Dept. of Neurosurgery, University of Zurich. Major prizes: Young Neurosurgeon Award of the WFNS (1997), EANS_Aesculap Prize (2001), Stiftung Neurochirurgische Forschung, DGNC (2002), Innovation Prize on Medizintechnik, Federal Ministry of Science – BMBF (2007). Past-President, German Academy of Neurosurgery. Past-President of the German-speaking Skull Base Societies (Gesellschaft für Schädelbasischirurgie). Current Head of the Committee of International Affairs of the German Society of Neurosurgery (DGNC). Prof. Tatagiba is author and co-author of nearly 300 scientific peer-review articles and 20 books. He has been Visiting Professor and Lecturer at different Universities in the USA, China, and Brazil, and has been invited as special speaker in hundreds of congresses and meetings in several countries. He is married and father of 6 children.
